Police officers in Ferguson, Missouri, have begun wearing body cameras after weeks of unrest over the shooting death of an unarmed black teen by a white officer and sharply differing accounts of the incident, officials said on Sunday.
Michael Brown, 18, was shot multiple times by Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson on Aug. 9, sparking nearly three weeks of angry protests in the St. Louis suburb and drawing global attention to race relations in the United States.
Law enforcement and witnesses gave differing accounts of what transpired before Brown was shot, with police saying the teen had struggled with the officer. Witnesses say Brown held up his hands and was surrendering when he was shot multiple times in the head and chest.
The discrepancy has revived calls for officers across the county to be outfitted with body cameras to help capture an accurate record of police-involved incidents.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Random Fact: from 1920 to 1960, 67% of African Americans owned businesses, owned land, owned banks, and started their own political parties in this country. It all disappeared when in the 60’s the NAACP demanded from the all white government of America to be integrated within the white culture of America. The prominent and prosperous yet segregated Black America that came to be from the 20’s to the 60’s dissolved overnight with white integration. Resulting in less than 4% of African American ownership in white America.

Latinx

There are latinx of color.

~Eon

Why’d you correct them to say latinx???

Is there a difference? i’ve never heard my hispanic (well) friends call themselves that…

I’ve read and learned that hispanic is a term that is connected to colonialism and imperialism, while latino, latina, etc are terms that are independent of that (I think I got that rigth) and inclusive to all genders (latinx).

~Eon

Its definitely not something everyone identifies with, and for good reason, but i think the simplest explanation would be:

HIspanic denotes a sense of community and heritage through connection to Spain

While Latinx denotes a sense of community and heritage through the shared connection of survival from the colonization of Spain

These terms are especially flawed when it comes to groups that were colonized by other groups, France, Portugal, England etc., but still in what is considered “Latin America.”
